Our Philosophy

To create stylish pieces at an affordable price. Using both precious and high quality non-precious metals to create accessible fashionable jewellery. 

We believe jewellery should tell a story, provoke a memory and have personal meaning. We aim to create jewellery which is customisable to the individual, in doing so we aim to create a meaningful piece you can treasure.

 

Our Story

Glitz and Gifts was created by Lydia Walker in September 2015, and is based in the seaside town of Southport, North West England.

While at university I wanted a creative outlet a hobby I could destress with and feel inspired by.  As a lover of all things sparkly I started collecting vintage glass crystals. I would spend hours searching for crystals and then creating those vintage treasures into new pieces of jewellery. I taught myself how to use different metals and learnt various different techniques along the way.

In September 2015 I decided to turn the hobby I loved so much into a business.  I started to attend local craft fairs and was so happy to hear positive feedback and sell my vintage pieces. Over time I started creating pieces with more modern glass crystals, and metal charms while still keeping the timeless vintage style I love.

With the help of my sister we created the name Glitz and Gifts, “Glitz” for the vintage sparkles and crystals and “Gifts” for all the extra treasures I was creating; the bag charms and beaded bookmarks.

After graduating my business started to take off, I decided to take a leap of faith and turn my full attention to Glitz and Gifts. I started off small with a tiny budget for branding and packaging materials; I taught myself through YouTube how to create a Facebook and Instagram page and invested everything back into the business.  I still attended local craft fairs because I loved connecting in person with our customers, and through doing these events I have meet so many wonderful people.

I knew for Glitz and Gifts to grow and be sustainable we needed to create an online presence, I started selling through Etsy, eBay and amazon handmade, eventually creating our own standalone website. Five years later Glitz and Gifts continues to grow, I still design every piece and gift wrap every order myself. Through our online platforms we can connect with our customers, share stories and most importantly create jewellery with meaning.
